BACKGROUND In the summer of 2009, families and friends of Stone County citizens with developmental disabilities began meeting because they all shared a common goal; to enhance the lives of Stone County citizens with developmental disabilities. In October of 2009 they proudly announced the birth of a new organization, CHANCES of Stone County.
PURPOSE - To promote opportunity for citizens with developmental disabilities living in Stone County to live more satisfying lives. - To provide programs at convenient community locations for the progression of inclusion. - To promote acknowledgement and acceptance of ability through community involvement. - To facilitate citizen involvement through a mentor program.
PARTICIPATION - Building friendships - Family-centered activities - Leadership development - Increased disability awareness, acknowledgement of ability and acceptance - Success through mentorship - Community contribution - Civic pride |
